Store Manager, Job Description


Overview
The position of Store Manager reports directly to the store owner. The primary responsibility of the
Store Manager is to profitably manage the day-to-day operations of the store by following the best
practices, as well as directing and coaching the store associates to provide a high energy customer
experience.


Store Operations
• Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the store.
• Continually works towards achieving sales goals while controlling expenses.
• Meets on a regular basis with owner to review current activities and results, communicate
opportunities to improve effectiveness, efficiencies and cost savings and to establish or revise
future operating plans.


Selling / Customer Experience
• Understands that the high energy customer experience is the #1 priority.
• Completes each OWL module as part of the High Energy Training in order to deliver the WBU high
energy customer experience as the trusted local expert.
• Uses successful selling skills to satisfy the customer and complete the sale.
• Reads, understands and follows the Employee Handbook, including the WBU Ten Touch Points
training.
• Directs and coaches the staff on the best practices of the Person in Charge of the Customer
experience.
• Wears the logo name badge and the logo apparel while working on the sales floor.


Personnel Management
• Demonstrates a positive, enthusiastic and professional demeanor.
• Assists the owner with the hiring, training and coaching of store associates.
• Completes a performance evaluation on new hires at the end of the training period.
• Assists the owner in completing annual performance evaluations for store staff.
• Uses POS reports and tools to better manage and coach staff.
• Assigns duties for store staff and ensures compliance.
• Conducts store meetings on a regular basis regarding product and hobby knowledge, store
information, and sales and customer experience training.
• Schedules staff efficiently within the payroll budget.
• Communicates policy or procedural changes to staff on a timely basis.
• Follows progressive discipline steps when necessary.


Merchandising
• Reads and understands the Product Information Handbook. Successfully completes the Certified
Birdfeeding Specialist Program.
• Understands and communicates the store’s merchandise and target products to the customer.
• Assists the owner in maintaining adequate inventory levels and communicates information
regarding inventory turn.
• Orders specific merchandise as assigned
