Itinerary: Group will meet at 8:00am at the gazebos to talk briefly about how to listen to birds, how to find singing birds and understanding bird song. At around 8:15am, we will walk around the lake and focus on finding and identifying several key species by ear. If possible, we will of course, try to see the birds as well, so optics are recommended! A slow walk around the lake should take approximately 1 hr. and the walk will end at 9:15am.
Key birds to hear: Barn Swallow, Red-winged Blackbird, Song Sparrow, Common Grackle, Yellow Warbler, Bushtit, Say’s Phoebe, American Robin, House Finch, Killdeer, Northern Flicker, European Starling, Mourning Dove, Black-capped Chickadee, and whatever else we find!
Weather cancellation: In case of light precipitation, the walk will still go on. In case of heavy rain, participants will be notified by phone either the night before or the morning of the walk, and the walk may be rescheduled.
